The resurfacing of Madhavan’s decade-old insights has sparked widespread curiosity online.
At a time when actors are often celebrated for their on-screen transformations, R. Madhavan is making waves for something entirely different. The actor, currently drawing attention for his role as a National Security Advisor-inspired character in Dhurandhar and its sequel, has left fans stunned with his deep understanding of military aviation. As old social media posts resurface, many are discovering that long before his latest project, Madhavan had already demonstrated a surprisingly detailed grasp of fighter jets and defence strategy.

What has caught everyone’s attention is a series of posts from as far back as 2011, where Madhavan shared his views on some of the world’s most advanced fighter aircraft. He compared jets like the F-18, F-16, Eurofighter Typhoon, Gripen, and MiG-35, ultimately recommending the Dassault Rafale as the best choice for India’s Air Force.

His assessment went beyond surface-level admiration, touching upon agility, performance, and operational suitability. He described the Rafale as exceptionally agile and effortless, while also acknowledging the strength of the Sukhoi Su-30MKI, noting that India already had a strong fleet of those aircraft.

In another interaction from the same period, Madhavan elaborated further on the strategic advantage of the Rafale. While appreciating the capabilities of the Eurofighter, he pointed out that the Rafale offered a balance of agility and effectiveness that made it particularly valuable when paired with the Su-30. His observations reflected not just enthusiasm but a nuanced understanding of how different aircraft could complement each other in real-world operations.

Years later, these opinions have gained renewed relevance. In 2016, India formalised a major defence deal with France, signing an agreement to acquire 36 Rafale fighter jets in a deal worth approximately $8.7 billion. The agreement was signed in New Delhi by then Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian, marking a significant step in strengthening the Indian Air Force’s capabilities with aircraft manufactured by Dassault Aviation.

The resurfacing of Madhavan’s decade-old insights has sparked widespread curiosity online, with many fans surprised at the depth of his knowledge. For an actor primarily known for his versatility across films, this unexpected expertise has added a new dimension to his public persona.

Internet reacts

Users online reacted with a mix of admiration and humour, with many praising Madhavan’s long-standing interest in defence and aviation. Some pointed out that he was already discussing such topics in depth even before they became popular on social media, while others playfully urged him to return to posting more about defence, technology, and fighter jets.

Several comments drew parallels between his real-life knowledge and his on-screen persona, calling him a true “Dhurandhar” and linking his interest in national pride to projects like Rocketry and his latest role. Others leaned into the character he portrayed, referring to him as Sanyal in a tongue-in-cheek manner, as if he were still on duty. A few even joked about whether he might secretly be connected to intelligence agencies, while some quipped that he had been preparing for such a role for years in advance.

Madhavan's NCC background

During his early years, R. Madhavan showed a strong inclination toward discipline and leadership through active participation in military-style training. At just 22, he earned recognition as one of the top NCC cadets in Maharashtra, which led to a rare opportunity to travel to England with a select group. There, he trained with the British Army, the Royal Navy, and the Royal Air Force, briefly considering a career in the armed forces. However, missing the age eligibility cut-off by six months changed his path. He then began teaching public speaking and personality development in Kolhapur, a phase that deeply influenced him and eventually led him to pursue post-graduation in public speaking.
