Vir Das is preparing to embark on a new creative phase as he readies his first film as a director, titled Happy Patel. Backed by Aamir Khan Productions, the project represents a significant milestone in Vir’s career. While this is his debut collaboration with the prestigious banner in a directorial capacity, his association with Aamir Khan dates back several years. Vir had earlier appeared in Delhi Belly, a cult comedy that helped shape his on-screen identity, particularly through a memorable special song that became widely popular among audiences.

A Nostalgic Conversation at Home

The subject of Happy Patel and Vir’s earlier work surfaced during filmmaker-choreographer Farah Khan’s recent visit to Vir Das’ residence. The informal interaction soon turned into a nostalgic discussion about Delhi Belly and the iconic track Jaa Chudail. Farah playfully hinted at sharing an inside story before involving Vir’s wife, Shivani, and reminding her of her role as the choreographer for the song. Shivani instantly acknowledged the experience as thoroughly enjoyable, prompting Farah to add that the song was so well-executed that it was allegedly shortened due to timing concerns linked to the film’s sequence of songs.

Behind-the-Scenes Revelations

Vir humorously mentioned that he had been informed the edit was done for narrative flow. Farah, however, responded with light sarcasm, suggesting otherwise. The discussion then shifted to Vir’s experience of working with Farah Khan’s team. He explained that her crew often intimidates performers by setting extremely high standards, making artistes nervous. Ironically, Farah herself, he noted, is warm and encouraging, even sharing casual moments like sitting together for snacks during rehearsals.

"They’re like, ‘This isn’t good enough for ma’am.’ But when Farah comes in, it’s completely the opposite. She’s the sweetest..." he recalled.

Costumes, Dancing, and Laughter

Farah fondly recalled the joy of filming the song and praised Vir’s dancing abilities. Vir added to the amusement by recalling how he was styled in tight leather pants and a curly wig for the shoot. Farah laughed while agreeing, and Vir went on to reveal that the pants actually belonged to Aamir Khan. This revelation led to further laughter as Vir jokingly explained the effort it took to fit into them.

Looking Ahead to Happy Patel

As the light-hearted conversation wrapped up, Farah teased Aamir Khan about too many secrets being revealed. Meanwhile, Happy Patel is scheduled for release on January 16 and will also mark actor Imran Khan’s return to cinema, adding further anticipation to the film’s arrival.
