Road trips with friends and family. Abhishek Khaitan, MD, Radico Khaitan, on getting behind the wheel.

My first car
“My first set of wheels was a Maruti Suzuki Esteem. I drove it to college in Bengaluru. I would often go for late night drives to Nandi Hills with my friends. We also had an annual ritual — that of taking a road trip to Goa for New Year’s. That marked the beginning of my love affair with cars and it’s been an enduring one.”

My current beauties

“I own a Mercedes Maybach, BMW 7-Series Steinway & Sons, and Porsche Cayenne Turbo S. I love all of them because each one offers different thrills.”

Best drive
“My most memorable road trips have always been with my family. All of us love travelling and we make sure that we have many road trips together. One of the best road trips was driving in the Black Forest region in Germany. The route was covered with dense forests and picturesque villages. It was a magical experience.”

Car talk

“I discuss cars with my cousin Padmanabh Mandelia as he is also passionate about cars.”

Top tips
“Treat your cars with care. They have to be well-maintained and serviced at regular intervals from authorised service centres. Never neglect the maintenance and pay attention to the manufacturer’s recommendations to get the best out of your wheels.”

Name game
“I don’t name my cars, but if I had to, I would name the Maybach as Serene. It is just the perfect place to be in after a long, hectic day at work and isolates you from the chaos outside.”

For a big award ceremony, I would arrive in…
“A Rolls Royce Ghost. It feels like one of the finest rewards of life. It is timeless in concept and modern in execution. It would be a truly luxurious ride.”
