The mastermind of this fiddle must have a fine taste in sarcasm.
Arya Stark, of 'Game of Thrones' fame, repeatedly said ‘A girl has no name’, and for many Indians, that means Anamika. Stark used to say this to distance herself from her identity. So, the key to the mystery of the teacher who worked simultaneously in 25 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) schools in UP undetected for over a year and amassed over Rs 1 crore as salary is obviously her no-name moniker: Anamika Shukla.
The mastermind of this fiddle must have a fine taste in sarcasm or could be a fan of the 1973 Bollywood hit 'Anamika' in which a lady with amnesia is named thus. Predictably, the Anamika who was arrested when she came to a state government education department official to submit her resignation — from one school, not all 25 — also initially feigned no recollection. Now it seems she isn’t Anamika at all but Priya.
But there is a lot about no-name story that remains unsolved, including how these Anamikas managed to record their attendance, presumably on UP’s flagship Prerna portal as mandated for teachers, in 25 schools for so long. Curiously, it was old-fashioned physical collation of teachers’ names from all schools, not some sophisticated algorithm, that revealed one common science teacher. How students in 25 KGBVs managed to do their lessons with a dematerialised science teacher clearly needs to be ascertained too.
