MUMBAI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Thursday, took to Twitter to laud the team of David Dhawan's 'Coolie No 1' for their efforts towards going plastic-free on set.

Quoting actor Varun Dhawan's tweet, that showed the cast and crew of the film with steel water bottles, PM Modi, wrote, "Superb gesture by the team of #CoolieNo1! Happy to see the film world contributing towards freeing India from single use plastic."

Dhawan, who stars in the movie opposite Sara Ali Khan, had on September 1 shared a picture on his Twitter handle, saying, "Being a plastic-free nation is the need of the hour and great initiative taken by our prime minister and we can all do this by making small changes. The sets of #CoolieNo1 will now only use steel bottles. @PMOIndia."

The Prime Minister has called for a global boycott of single-use plastic.

The film, a remake of Govinda and Karisma Kapoor's 1995 hit, is produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani and Deepshikha Deshmukh.
