A proud moment! Biocon boss Kiran Mazumdar Shaw meets President Droupadi Murmu in Delhi, calls her an 'inspiration'

Businesswoman Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, who is in Delhi this week, took a break from her busy schedule to meet President Droupadi Murmu on Monday.

Taking to social media, the Executive Chairperson of Biocon shared a picture of herself with Murmu.

In her post, the 70-year-old said it was a "great honour" and her "privilege" to meet the President at Rashtrapati Bhavan.


Calling it a "proud moment," Mazumdar-Shaw shared her entrepreneurial journey with Murmu. She added in her tweet, "Her own life is a huge inspiration to every woman in our country. Truly a proud moment."


The biotech boss opted for a purple silk saree with gold 'kalka' motif embroidery and peach pink zari border. She completed her look with a pearl necklace. On the other hand, President Murmu kept it simple in a sky blue saree with a zari border and a bright yellow blouse.

On Monday, Mazumdar-Shaw also met US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti, who has been touring around the country. A close aide of US President Joe Biden, Garcetti was officially sworn in as the US Ambassador to India in March.

While the location where they met was undisclosed, the duo could be seen happily posing for the camera.

Mazumdar-Shaw said that she had the distinct pleasure of meeting Garcetti, and they discussed creating a US-India Lifesciences corridor.

Mazumdar-Shaw has been a game-changer in the field of biopharmaceuticals. For her work in biotechnology, she has been awarded Padma Shri in 1989 and the Padma Bhushan in 2005.


Garcetti has been meeting prominent business figures like Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra, Kotak Mahindra Bank Chairman Uday Kotak, Bigtree Entertainment CEO Ashish Hemrajani, and Avaana Capital founder Anjali Bansal, among others.

After touring Mumbai and Hyderabad, Garcetti was in Ahmedabad for the Indian Premier League (IPL) finals.
