A grand affair: BK Goenka rings in his 50th in style

Welspun India Chairman BK Goenka turned 50 yesterday, but his family threw a party to celebrate his milestone birthday at a Mumbai five star hotel last Friday itself. Among those who attended were Kishore Biyani, Uday Kotak, Shashi Ruia, Gautam Adani and Sajjan Jindal, along with Goenka’s other friends and family members.

“Most of the industrialists present danced to Bollywood tunes,” says one of the guests, who doesn’t want to be named. “The party theme was vintage. Pictures of BK from over the years were put up on a life size board. Even the two tier cake had a vintage car plonked on top,” said another guest.

Another source said that BK’s wife Dipali, MD, Welspun, was very emotional, as were the couple’s daughters — Radhika and Vanshika. “The daughters thanked BK for his unconditional love and support. Dipali said that BK has made her resilient and strong enough to help her face any challenge in life,” said the guest.

The bar was named Theka to add a rustic feel to the evening and the menu was a mix of Indian and continental fare.
