Trying to send an e-mail to your boss through Gmail but not able to get through? You are not alone. Thursday morning saw a number of people rant on social media about how they aren’t able to attach files or send mails through Gmail.

While some users said that they are unable to send e-mails altogether, others complained that those with attachments weren’t going through. On uploading an attachment, the process is slow and when once the file is fully uploaded, an error message ‘you need to check your network’ shows up on screen.

Users reported glitches with not just Gmail but also Google Drive and said that they are unable to upload or download the files. In addition to Drive and Gmail, several other Google services such as Meet, Chat, Docs, Groups, Sites, Slides, Keep and Voice are also down, globally.

Google has also confirmed that the issues have affected the ability to send emails via Gmail, recording video conferences on Meet, creating/uploading new files on Drive, managing user uploads on G Suite admin console (for enterprise users), and also posting messages on Google Chat.

This is the second time in the space of a few weeks that Gmail has suffered an outage. In July, many users were unable to log into Gmail for a short while — an issue subsequently fixed.

DownDetector, a website that tracks outages of various services shows that the issue is not just limited to the users in India. Users in other parts of the world such as Australia and Japan are also facing similar issues with the e-mail client.

Google, as per the latest update on its status page on 8/20/20 at 3:10 pm, wrote: "Gmail service has already been restored for some users, and we expect a resolution for all users in the near future. Please note this time frame is an estimate and may change."

Users reported glitches with not just Gmail but also Google Drive and said that they are unable to upload or download the files.
