A dinner to mark 10 years of Wasabi restaurant by Morimoto

It was a special celebration for the Taj folks on August 30 — a dinner to mark 10 years of the city's signature Japanese restaurant, Wasabi by Morimoto. In true Japanese style, top chef Hemant Oberoi took out bubbly resting in a chilled watermelon, before popping it to raise a toast.

Ten cakes were brought out for the guests and Oberoi spoke of Wasabi fans like the Ambanis, Goenkas, Ruias, Salgaonkars and Bollywood stars Ranbir Kapoor, Rani Mukerji, Kareena Kapoor (remember that punch-up at the restaurant involving her Nawabi husband?) and Karan Johar.

The top chef was beaming for another reason, having received special congratulations from Ratan Tata himself.

The Chairman Emeritus stopped by for a blink-and-miss greeting at the Sunday dinner and as reclusive as always, he quickly vanished to dine in another private space in his hotel.
