Destination weddings may be all the vogue. But picking the right destination is no easy choice. The Jatias of Hardcastle Restaurants (the force behind McDonalds in India) and Mehtas of Rosy Blue made a rather unconventional choice, selecting Bahrain to host their children’s wedding. Ayush (son of Amit and Smita Jatia) married Diya (daughter of Russell and Mona Mehta) in Manama, the capital of Bahrain, last week. The couple’s engagement party was hosted at a five-star property in Mumbai, owned by another branch of the Jatia family, in December last year. Hence, it was fitting to kick off the celebrations with a pre-wedding reception at the same venue, before moving the party to the Middle East.

At the mehendi-sangeet function, the bride and groom’s parents danced to tracks like ‘Love is a waste of time’ from PK and ‘Aap jaisa koi meri zindagi mein aaye’ from Qurbani. Youngsters shook a leg to dance numbers like ‘Cham cham’ (Baaghi) and ‘Chittiyaan kalaiyaan’ (Roy). The bride entered the wedding mandap seated on a chairpalanquin, carried in by male members of her family. And adding a glorious finish to the celebrations was a fireworks display, lighting up the Bahrain Bay.
