65th National Film Awards: Boney Kapoor receives award on behalf of Sridevi with daughters Janhvi, Khushi

President Ram Nath Kovind felicitated the winners of the 65th National Film Awards at a ceremony in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

The National Award for best actor(female) went to Sridevi (posthumously) for her role in the movie 'Mom'. The award was received by her husband Boney Kapoor and daughters Janhvi and Khushi Kapoor.



Late actor Vinod Khanna, who passed away last year, was awarded India's highest film honour, the Dadasaheb Phalke award. Akshaye Khanna received the award on behalf of his late father Vinod Khanna's phenomenal contribution to Indian cinema. He was last seen along side Shah Rukh Khan in 'Dilwale'.


19-year-old Riddhi Sen bagged the Best Actor Award for the role displaying the complexities of a boy who changed his gender in the Bengali movie 'Nagarkirtan'.

Music Maestro AR Rahman bagged the award in Best Music Direction category for the songs in the Tamil movie 'Kaatru Veliyidai' and the Background music in the Hindi movie 'Mom'.


And the Best Feature Film Award went to the Assamese film 'Village Rockstars', a marvellous picturisation of a village girl who, with her vibrant spirit, achieves her dream of having her own rock band.

Earlier, Smriti Irani and MOS Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore presented some other awards at the ceremony.

During the day more than 60 National Film Award recipients had threatened to skip the ceremony because it was revealed that the President would be presenting only 11 awards, a departure from established tradition, and the remaining would be given by Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani.

However, the Rashtrapati Bhavan had said that the President attends all award functions for a maximum of one hour.


Janhvi Kapoor, who is set to make her debut with 'Dhadak', was seen leaving for the ceremony clad in Sridevi's personal ivory kanjeevaram saree. Sister Khushi was dressed in a lehenga.

'Mom' was Sridevi's 300th film, and also her last before her sudden demise in February this year.

Best Supporting Actress: Divya Dutta for 'Irada'

Best Supporting Actor: Fahad Fazil for 'Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum'

Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment: 'Baahubali: The Conclusion'

Best Child Artist: Bhanita Das for 'Village Rockstars'
