Based on the 2021 bestselling novel by Catherine Ryan Howard, the series revolves around Ciara Wyse and Oliver Kennedy, played by Dove Cameron and Avan Jogia, respectively. Their story begins with a chance encounter at a supermarket. What starts as an instant connection quickly turns into a whirlwind romance. However, as the episodes unfold, it becomes clear that both characters are hiding more than they reveal.
The narrative moves between two timelines. In the present day, police officers investigate a shocking discovery: a badly decomposed body found in Oliver’s luxury Boston apartment, exactly 56 days after the couple first met. The identity of the victim remains unclear at first, raising questions about whether it is Ciara, Oliver, or someone else entirely. At the same time, flashbacks trace the rapid progression of their relationship.

Oliver is portrayed as a wealthy architect haunted by trauma and paranoia, while Ciara appears to have secrets of her own, including a questionable identity and hidden motives. The show has been created by Karyn Usher and Lisa Zwerling, with executive production by filmmaker James Wan.
