Rumours of Micron employees in India receiving Diwali bonuses worth several times their annual salaries first surfaced on Reddit recently. What began as a discussion among people trying to understand the company's bonus structure has now gained attention after a tech professional claimed that employees have indeed received substantial cash payouts and stock awards.

The discussion started with a Reddit user asking about the bonuses Indian employees were receiving during the current quarter. The employee also wanted to know whether payouts differed according to designation, such as engineer, senior engineer, staff or lead.

One commenter responded by saying, "My friend who's new joinee in micron got a whopping a 6.5 lakhs of amount as bonus. As company distribute his October month salary and bonus at the same time. He's way to much happier now."


The comment made another user ask whether the amount was part of a joining bonus or an additional payment linked to company performance.

Micron employee reportedly gets Rs 20 lakh in cash and stocks

The discussion gained further momentum after an X user shared claims about the company's Diwali payouts in India. According to the post, someone who had recently joined Micron with an annual package of around Rs 7-8 lakh reportedly received Rs 12 lakh in cash and another Rs 8 lakh worth of restricted stock units (RSUs).

"That's almost 20L for someone earning 7-8L annually," the user wrote, highlighting the scale of the reported payout.

The X user later clarified that the Rs 12 lakh cash payment was made along with the employee's October salary, with approximately Rs 2.7-2.8 lakh deducted in taxes. The additional Rs 8 lakh in RSUs will vest over the next few years, meaning it is not an immediate cash payment.

The post attracted several reactions from people claiming to know Micron employees. One user wrote, "I just had someone from there planning their first ever international trip. Bonuses have been crazy, I couldn't comprehend the number, but now I know lol."

Another commenter, who works at Google, also backed the claims, writing, "Yep! Can confirm that the rumours are true. I have a close friend who works at Micron and yes they've received crazy bonuses and RSUs."

When asked whether the reported bonuses were being given to production or design and distribution employees, the original poster clarified that the employee he was referring to worked in production.

Why are Micron bonuses getting attention?

About 700 workers at the company’s Taiwan operations are expected to receive bonuses equivalent to as much as five years’ pay, Yahoo Finance reported.

The payout reportedly consists of three incentives: an annual performance bonus of between 7.5 and 12.5 months of salary for most employees, a mass-production bonus of the equivalent of 20% of annual salary and a one-time appreciation bonus of NT$1 million.

The big payouts come as demand for memory chips used in artificial intelligence infrastructure grows, helping major makers like Micron.

However, the Taiwan announcement should not be confused with the claims about Indian employees.

Also, Micron has not officially confirmed the reported bonus figures for its Indian workforce. The claims currently circulating are based on Reddit discussions, X posts and accounts shared by people claiming to know employees.
