Government bans apps like ALTT and ULLU among many.
In a major digital crackdown, the Indian government has ordered Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to block access to 25 OTT platforms that allegedly host unlawful and obscene content. This sweeping move affects some widely known names such as Ullu, ALTT, and Desiflix, as reported by IANS.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), in a recent notification, underscored that intermediaries have a legal obligation under the Information Technology Act, 2000, and the IT (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, to restrict access to content deemed illegal. The latest directive aims to curb the spread of material that is sexually explicit and violates Indian legal and cultural standards.

Platforms including Big Shots App, Boomex, Navarasa Lite, Gulab App, Kangan App, Bull App, Jalva App, Wow Entertainment, Look Entertainment, Hitprime, Feneo, ShowX, Sol Talkies, Adda TV, HotX VIP, Hulchul App, MoodX, NeonX VIP, Fugi, Mojflix, and Triflicks have also been flagged. These platforms were found in violation of multiple laws, such as Sections 67 and 67A of the IT Act, Section 294 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and Section 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986.

According to media reports cited by IANS, the MIB has further requested the Department of Telecommunications to assist ISPs in implementing the block. This latest action signals the government’s growing focus on tightening regulation over digital content and reinforcing adherence to national laws.
