Wanted: CMDs, MDs & directors for BSNL, MMTC, MTNL

NEW DELHI: State-run corporations will soon be hunting for senior executives, as over 50 companies will have nearly 70 top vacant positions in the coming months.

The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PSEB), which advises and helps the government in selecting board-level appointments at public sector units, has already started the recruitment process for 67 positions at various firms.

About 48 would fall vacant by December and another 19 by April 2011, including 27 top positions like chairmen/CMDs and MDs, according to the information available on PSEB Website.

The search is already on for the chairmen and managing directors for BSNL, MMTC, MTNL, Central Electronics, and Eastern Coalfields.



Besides, the PSEB has also initiated the process for filling at least 40 director-level positions at NTPC, Heavy Engineering Corporation, Rashtriya Ispat Nigam, Steel Authority of India, Gail, and National Textile Corporation, among others. These positions include personnel, finance, operations, business development, technical, and technology directors.

Next year, the chairman and managing director (CMD) of ONGC, NHPC, Coal India and Hindustan Shipyard will fall vacant besides the managing director of HMT.

At National Eastern Electrical Power Corp, the post of the chairman and managing director fell vacant last October, while that of the corporate planning, projects and business development directors at Goa Shipyard has been vacant since last November.

The PESB is the nodal body that helps/advices the government in hiring senior managerial staff for the various corporations it owns and is part of the department of personnel and training under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pension.
