Vivek Venkatachalam to head GE's Converteam business in India

GE Energy on Tuesday said it has appointed Vivek Venkatachalam as president and chief executive officer for Converteam business.

NEW DELHI: GE Energy on Tuesday said it has appointed Vivek Venkatachalam as president and chief executive officer for Converteam business operations in India.

The worldwide operations of Converteam, a provider of power conversion and automation systems, among others, was recently acquired by GE Energy.

"Venkatachalam, currently head of GE Oil & Gas, India, in his new role will oversee the development and execution of commercial, marketing, engineering and services strategy for Converteam in India," GE Energy said in a statement.

Converteam's facilities are located in Chennai and its portfolio includes variable frequency drives and other power electronics, advanced motors and generators.

Venkatachalam has been associated with GE since 2000. "In his most recent role as the business leader for GE Oil & Gas, Vivek (Venkatachalam) did an outstanding job of leading the India team over last 2 years. He has been instrumental in building the business strategies and developing the local team, products & partnerships and growing the business," GE India's President & CEO John Flannery said.
