TCS makes a comeback at VIT campus with 1,864 offers; 7947 jobs offered in slot 1

NEW DELHI: For the first time in five years, Tata Consultancy Services ( TCS) participated in the VIT University campus placement and made 1,864 job offers. A total of 7,947 jobs were offered in the slot 1 to VIT students. However, due to multiple job offers made to many students, only 3,136 VIT students actually got job offers.

"For the first time, TCS joined the bandwagon as earlier they never participated in the slot sharing model. Maybe they did not want to miss out on the crème of VIT," said VIT chancellor G Viswanathan.

Apart from TCS, VIT shared the slot 1 with four other IT companies – Accenture, Cognizant, Infosys and Wipro. The highest salary offered this year so far is Rs 22 lakh per annum by a startup called Helpchat as compared to Rs 24 lakh per annum offered by Code Nation last year. Cognizant offered 1,914 jobs, TCS 1,864, Accenture 1,472, Infosys 1,456 and Wipro, 1,241.

"These leading IT companies are turning to non-IIT established engineering colleges as the stickiness of these engineers is higher than IIT graduates," said Viswanathan. "Cognizant hired the highest numbers (1914), which is again a national record in slot 1 placements," said a release shared by VIT.

VIT has entered the Limca book of records for highest number of placements four times so far. "We will be again applying for Limca book of records for this year," he said.

The placement season for the current year (2015-16) started in May, 2015 with M.Tech internship placements. More than 30 companies have recruited 302 M-Tech students as interns with a stipend ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 35,000 per month. Some of the prominent recruiters include Intel, VmWare, Netapp, Continental Automotive, IFB, Cummins, ST Microelectronics, Renault-Nissan, Honeywell etc.

Core engineering companies like L&T Constructions, Godrej Properties, Johnson Controls, Sundaram Clayton, Whirlpool, SKF have already visited VIT for placements. Automotive companies like Maruti, Ford, Hyundai, Caterpillar, General Motors will be visiting VIT this month for the placement drives.
