Skill development critical task before India, says Ramadorai

The Council, headed by the Prime Minister, seeks to develop a strategy for skill development at the national level along with variations at the state level and formulate strategies to address the skill deficit.

MUMBAI: S Ramadorai, former CEO of leading software firm TCS who has been appointed as Advisor to the Prime Minister in the National Skill Development Council (NSDC), today said he was humbled by the opportunity given to him by the Government.

"I am both delighted and humbled by the opportunity to be the Advisor to the Prime Minister in the NSDC," Ramadorai, currently Vice-Chairman of TCS, in a statement here.

The veteran IT professional will hold the rank of a Cabinet Minister.

The Council, headed by the Prime Minister, seeks to develop a strategy for skill development at the national level along with variations at the state level and formulate strategies to address the skill deficit.

"Strengthening the links between education, employable skills and jobs is imperative both from the perspective of a young working population as well as a competitive advantage for the country," he said.

To reap the benefits of our demographic dividend, skill development for employability is a critical task for the nation, he said.

On Ramadorai's appointment, TCS Managing Director and CEO N Chandrasekaran, said, "we are delighted that Ramadorai has been given this critical role of helping build skills and competency of India's growing workforce."
