Salary, leaders and work-life balance crucial to employees: JobBuzz Survey

Approximately 30% of the workforce highlighted remuneration as the top reason to work in a company in a survey conducted by JobBuzz, a career research platform of TimesJobs.com, which gives jobseekers the information to make intelligent career decisions.

The survey further revealed that ‘ leadership team’ and ‘ work-life balance’ was voted by 26% employees and together holds the second position in the top reason to work list.

While the overall contribution of other prime factors such as career growth opportunities (10%), learning & development (6%) and brand name (3%) remained below 20% in the list.

In an industry-wise analysis, the survey revealed that in the IT/Telecom industry 30% employees voted work-life balance as the top reason to work in a company followed by remuneration (26%) and leadership team (22%).

A similar trend was observed in ITeS segment, where 29% employees recommended work-life balance over other reasons to work. The trend is indicative that for the workforce in high-pressure domains such as IT/Telecom and BPO balancing office and home is the matter of top priority.

It further said that employees in the Banking, Financial Services and Insurance segment rated salary package (34%) as the most important criteria to work in an organization. The reasons such as leadership team (22%) and work-life balance (23%) are only next in their list.

According to JobBuzz, a career research platform of TimesJobs.com, in consumer-driven sectors such as Consumer Durables/FMCG remuneration (33%) appeared as the biggest motivator to choose an employer. A considerable portion of employees (11%) in this industry has also voted career growth opportunities as one of the important factors while choosing a job. In the Retail industry, leadership team was voted by 31% employees as the top reason to work in a company.

In totality, it has appeared in the survey that the workforce today wishes for a healthy salary package together with a work environment where they can maintain a work-life balance and leaders/seniors, who can support them to learn and develop, both internally and externally.
