CHANDIGARH: Haryana government will on April 1 launch an initiative to offer monetary rewards for unskilled youth who undergo skills training.

"Phase I of the centrally-sponsored 'Star' scheme would be implemented in the state from April 1.

"Under it, a minimum of one month's training would be provided in various areas, including IT, retail, security, automotive stream and healthcare," said Education Minister Geeta Bhukkal.

The scheme would be implemented post working hours at schools. The approved training providers under the scheme have been deputed to conduct the training at schools.

"Any of the approved training providers can approach the principal (of a school) and present their credentials for conducting training there.

"The trainer would get the training conducted through school teachers post school hours under the supervision of the principal," the minister said in a release.

While the equipment and laboratory is to be provided by the schools, the raw material for lab work and reading material would be provided by the training partner.

"The scheme aims to reward trainees... While Rs 10,000 would be given for passing the assessment of non-manufacturing courses like IT and retail, a reward of Rs 15,000 would be given to trainees for passing manufacturing courses, for example, in automotive," she stated.

"Upon successful completion of training and assessment, each candidate would also be awarded with a National Skill Certificate under the 'Star' scheme", she added.
