Reliance Retail says no job cuts

Reliance Retail on Wednesday said it is pressing ahead with its planned expansion and there was no retrenchment of its staff, rubbishing reports that the company was giving pink slips to employees.

NEW DELHI: Reliance Retail on Wednesday said it is pressing ahead with its planned expansion and there was no retrenchment of its staff, rubbishing reports that the company was giving pink slips to employees.

"We would categorically deny reports of retrenchment of staff undertaken by Reliance Retail," a company spokesperson said.

Reports had suggested that the company has cut over 1,000 jobs in the wake of the current financial crisis impacting the economy.

"Reliance Retail has been expanding its operations across the country. In fact, in the last 15 days, we have opened several new stores across our various formats including Reliance Mart, Reliance Footprint and Reliance Timeout in key markets," the spokesperson added.

In the past the company had, however, said it would cut jobs after it had faced opposition to operations in states, including Uttar Pradesh and Orissa.
