Online marketplace ShopClues plans to hire 1,500 employees by December

BENGALURU: Online marketplace ShopClues is looking to more than double its headcount by the end of this year. The Gurgaon-based company, which has about 1,000 employees, plans to hire at least 1,500 more workers across various roles in products and technology, categories and management, operations and more.

“ShopClues is focused on growth and profitability…We are looking at hiring at least 100-150 freshers from engineering colleges and B-schools, but the majority of our hiring will take place at the lateral level,” Radhika Aggarwal, the company’s cofounder told ET in an exclusive interview.

The startup, which entered the unicorn club in January when it received a valuation of $1.1 billion in a fundraising round led by GIC, is also expected to hire externally for some leadership positions, although internal promotions are not being ruled out, Aggarwal said.

“While talent in the e-commerce industry can definitely be a plus, we are more concerned about recruiting people with an ability to learn and collaborate effectively,” Aggarwal said.

ShopClues recruits from institutes like the IIMs, SP Jain Institute of Management and Research, Faculty of Management Studies, and Management Development Institute for MBA-level talent, and from the IITs and NITs, as well as smaller engineering schools for positions in technology. The startup’s other investors include Helion Venture Partners and Tiger Global Management.
