NIT clinches Rs 23 lakh pa package

TRICHI: The National Institute of Technology (NIT), one among the top ranking technical education centres in the country, has struck a highest salary offer of Rs 23 lakh per annum for a student during its campus placement exercise.
The salary offer was made by MNC Schlumberger to a mechanical engineering graduate with a CTC (cost to the company) of Rs 23 lakh per annum for posting in India and Rs 44 lakh per annum in case of overseas posting, Prof M Chidambaram, Director, NIT, Tiruchirappalli, told reporters here on Wednesday.
He said the placements during the academic year 2006-07 was one of the best in the country, with over 100 per cent of UG students and 94 per cent of PG students placed through campus selection.
According to Dr A K Bakthavatsalam, who is heading the Placement Cell, one out of every five student graduated in NITT had received two offers on hand.
The companies thronging to the Campus include MNCs like Schlumberger, Microsoft, Yahoo and Texas Instruments and IT giants like TCS, Wipro, Infosys and CSC and PSUs like NTPC, ONGC, IOCL, BPCL.
