NCP to ask for reservation of govt jobs for North-East

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) will ask the Centre to earmark 10 per cent of central government jobs for people of the north-eastern region, party leader Purno A Sangma said on Tuesday.

SHILLONG: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) will ask the Centre to earmark 10 per cent of central government jobs for people of the north-eastern region, party leader Purno A Sangma said on Tuesday.

"Everything that happens in the society boils down to employment. The cause of insurgency is also unemployment", he told a seminar here.

"It is time to take up the common man's issues to ensure proper economic development of the state", Sangma said.

The former Lok Sabha speaker said since every central ministry was already setting aside 10 per cent of its funds for the development of the north-east, it would not be wrong if this percentage of jobs could be demanded.
