NAL faces serious manpower crunch
The National Aerospace Laboratories, celebrating its golden jubilee year, is facing a serious manpower crunch with several posts of scientists remaining vacant.
Last year there were 80 posts for which the organisation had planned to recruit personnel in Scientist B and C category which were at the lower end category, he told reporters yesterday.
However, the organisation could fill up only 60 odd posts for lack of candidates. "We were even forced to lower standards regarding quality of manpower taken in", he said.
Recently the organisation had called for recruitment for 96 posts in the same category, receiving a similar response.
"We no longer can attract talent," he said, recalling that at one time NAL was the preferred destination for fresh engineers. The higher pay scales offered by the private sector was driving talent away from the public sector, he said.
"Those at the top level were retiring and we have people resigning as well," he said. Extensions had been granted to a couple of senior level scientists, where there was no second line of officials present.
