Maharashtra: 299 posts of assistant prosecutors to be filled

Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil today said a high-level committee set up in this regard had recommended appointment of additional 299 assistant government prosecutors.

MUMBAI: In a bid to increase the conviction rate, Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil today said a high-level committee set up in this regard had recommended appointment of additional 299 assistant government prosecutors.

"This year and the next year 100 posts each will be filled. In the third year another 99 posts will be filled," Patil said in a statement issued here.

The conviction rate in the state was eight percent, which was much lower than that in other states, he said.
