SRINAGAR: In order to tackle the problem of unemployment, Jammu and Kashmir government would appoint 20,000 youth as class four and casual labourers within three months in different departments.

Social Welfare Minister Abdul Gani Vakil said today that though it was not possible for the government to provide jobs to every educated youth, government was taking every step to fill in vacancies in different departments through innovative fast-track recruitment mechanism.

Addressing a public meeting at Y K Pora in Anantnag, Vakil asked youth to avail the benefits of loans being advanced by financial institutions for setting up of small scale industrial units.

He said government would streamline procedure for granting pension to the aged, widows, orphans and handicapped.

Under the new rules, only below poverty line ration cards would be required to be produced by the beneficiaries for obtaining financial assistance, the minister added.

Vakil, who is senior vice president of JKPCC, also said that Congress President Sonia Gandhi was keen to strengthen the party unit in Kashmir.
