Hiring and retaining people still remains a huge challenge for most companies who are finding novel ideas to tacle the problem. Firing employees?
To tackle such HR issues, companies are now coming up with innovative concepts to hire and retain people. Various HR representatives across sectors like IT, telecom, automobiles and human resource consultants gathered together in the capital, to discuss and share the concept of innovative hiring strategies. The seminar was organised by industry body CII on Friday.
���Probably the easiest thing to do is to poach talent from competition. But that still does not solve our long-term needs. What is required is a more comprehensive strategy, or a mix of these to attract workforce,��� said TCS global head-talent acquisition D P Nambiar.
A few companies also shared their experiences in implementing innovative hiring strategies. So when Infosys BPO is hoping to recruit from campuses with their Campus Ambassador Program, Sona Steering has adopted the policy of not engaging any consultants for hiring purposes.

While CSC is focussing on polytechnic diploma holders, beyond simple graduates, Airtel had entered the Dadar Cricket Ground in Mumbai to recruit 200-odd people.
Most of the senior HR executives agreed that strategies like creating brand equity in the eyes of potential employees, hiring for retaining purposes and not for short-term perspective have helped companies, and will do so in the future as well.
���Most of the companies focus on employees engagement programs and spend crores carrying such initiatives. According to us, a more consolidated approach is required, which involves good hiring practices, engagement activities and exit scores as well,��� said People Strong CEO Pankaj Bansal.
Representatives of IT companies could not conceal their uncertainty of what lies ahead in the future. It was clear that sub-prime woes are troubling HR heads as well. ��� I wonder if in the coming few weeks, if not months, the context of recruiting for IT and ITes will undergo a change and what it would lead to eventually. I am keeping my fingers crossed,��� said M Lakshamanan of Patni Computers.
