India, Kuwait agree on model contract for jobseekers

Unskilled workers from India can seek jobs in Kuwait again as the two countries have agreed upon a model contract for jobseekers.

NEW DELHI: Unskilled workers from India can seek jobs in Kuwait again as the two countries have agreed upon a model contract for jobseekers.

After several rounds of talks, the two sides concluded a common contract for allowing unskilled workers of Indian origin to work in Kuwait.

Kuwait had suspended attestation of work contracts relating to workers coming to the Gulf emirate under Visa No 18 of the private sector.

"The meetings held by Minister of State E Ahamed with ministers and Prime Minister of Kuwait paved the way to break the deadlock," an official release said.

The Indian Embassy in Kuwait resumed the attestation of the relevant work contracts today.

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs has formally communicated to the Indian embassy in Kuwait the approval of the Employment Contract prepared by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour.
