India has seen progress in women’s employment in recent years. The female labour force participation rate increased to 35.1% in January from 34.2% in April 2025.

More women are also starting businesses, with women co-founding 4.82% of the country’s tech startups in 2025.

However, despite these gains, women remain underrepresented in leadership positions and continue to face significant pay disparities.
