Hiring up 4% in Oct 2013 over Sept 2013: Naukri Job Speak Report

NEW DELHI: The Naukri Job Speak Index, the job index of online portal Naukri.com has witnessed a 4% growth in hiring in October 2013 compared to September 2013, Naukri stated in a report. The hiring activity has witnessed an 11% increase when compared to the same period of last year. Most of the sectors have shown an upward trend in hiring in October 2013.

Sectors witnessing massive growth in hiring include oil and gas and insurance. However, hiring activity has declined in the media and entertainment sector with the index showing a dip of 7 % compared to September 2013. This downward spiral in media and entertainment sector is also visible in a year on year analysis with the index showing a dip of 6% in October 2013 compared to October 2012.

Construction and engineering have shown a decline of 7% and 6% in October 2013 as compared to September 2013.

A year on year comparison shows a downward trend in the auto sector with the index showing a decline of 19%, according to the report.

Telecom, BPO and pharma witnessed a tangible month on month increase with 20%, 11% and 7% respectively on the index.

Among the top metros, Bangalore showed the maximum increase in hiring with the index moving up by 7% in October 2013 compared to September 2013 followed by Hyderabad and Mumbai with a slight increase in hiring of 6% and 4 % month on month respectively.

“The current economic situation has started showing signs of recovery and this sentiment is getting echoed in the hiring pattern of the companies. Our index has thereby gone up presaging better times ahead. We are cautious and hope that hiring will continue to improve by the end of this year,” Ambarish Raghuvanshi, group president finance and CFO, Info Edge said in a statement.
