High-level panel for job creation in goods and services sectors
NEW DELHI: The government has formed a high-level task force to come up with a comprehensive action plan to generate jobs and alleviate under-employment in both the goods and services sectors and boost India’s exports in key labour-intensive industries. The 15-member task force led by Niti Aayog vice chairman Rajiv Kumar will submit its recommendations by November.

The panel will recommend sector specific policy interventions in key employment sectors, propose measures to enhance trade in services with high employment potential and identify key macroeconomic factors hampering exports and how to address them. Members of the task force include the Niti Aayog CEO and secretaries from the departments of commerce, industrial policy & promotion and economic affairs and the ministry of textiles. Niti Aayog is of the view that the organised sector needs to be expanded urgently in a sustained manner in order to address India’s unemployment and under-employment issues.

“An important strategy is also to enable a shift towards more labourintensive goods and services that are destined for exports. Given the importance of exports in generating jobs, India needs to create an environment in which globally competitive exporters can emerge and flourish,” the Aayog said.
