Govt restricts further employment of PESB chairman, members

The government changed the service conditions of Chairman and the members of the Public Enterprise Selection Board by restricting their employment after retirement and making provisions for their removal.

NEW DELHI: The government on Friday changed the service conditions of Chairman and the members of the Public Enterprise Selection Board by restricting their employment after retirement and making provisions for their removal.

"There are similar provisions for other bodies such as UPSE. Therefore, provisions are being made to restrict further employment of the Chairperson and the members of the PESB", Finace Minister P Chidambaram said while briefing reporters about the decisions taken by the Cabinet.

PESB is responsible for selection and placement of senior functionaries of Public Sector Enterprises including chairpersons, managing directors and other functional directors.

The modified provisions would also include the procedures for removal of PESB Chairman and members, in case it becomes necessary, he said.

At present, there are no provisions that restrict further employment of PESB members after retirement nor there are provisions for their removal during the service period.
