BENGALURU: Business process management and services firm Genpact has announced an extension in maternity leave for female employees to 26 weeks from 12.

The benefit is applicable also to adopting mothers and those who use surrogates to bear a child. The changes to the maternity leave policy come into effect from this year for employees in India. “We are committed to finding ways to bring more women into the workforce, and once they are in, finding ways to enable continuity of employment as they balance family and work.

This is a big step in that direction,” chief human resources officer Piyush Mehta told ET. The company also has other woman-friendly initiatives under the Returning Moms programme — such as access to daycare facilities at or near its office locations, stork parking at all locations, work from home or flexible hours if the nature of work permits, and shift timings and location of their choice for up to a year upon return from maternity leave.
