Government sources said the decision was taken to ensure full technical soundness of the portal before opening it to students. A team of experts from IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras are closely assessing the portal system to assess vulnerabilities in the OSM and CBSE portals to address all technical gaps fully before it goes live on June 1, sources added.
CBSE said on X that the time gap was being made to facilitate a "transparent and glitch-free process" for students and ensure the "highest standards and protocols of evaluation".
"To ensure a transparent and glitch-free process for verification and re-evaluation of answer books of students who intend to submit their applications on the Post-Result Activities portal, it has been decided that the designated portal will now be operational from June 1, 2026," the statement said.
Alongside, the education ministry and CBSE are taking measures to fix the numerous glitches that have so far marked the process and portal. To start with, CBSE has done away with the HDFC payment gateway system which was so far operational on the CBSE portal and instead will bring in a choice of four payment gateways associated with PSU banks -- SBI, Canara Bank, Indian Bank and Bank of Baroda. A test run has already been done and worked well, government sources said.
The portal will now be hosted on Amazon Web Services instead of the original portal which was caught amid errors. Over 4 lakh students have applied for verification/re-evaluation this year vis a vis just about 2 lakh last year. Much has to do with reduced marks, especially in Physics and Math, under the OSM mechanism besides the recent reports of errors and mix-ups under the new marking scheme introduced with Class 12 board exams this year.
While answer sheets of 17 lakh plus students of Class 12 were assessed under OSM, in about 68,000 cases scanning quality was found to be patchy; 13,000 of these were found not legible and several had to be re-scanned and re-evaluated manually. There are over 20 cases where answer sheets have been mixed up.
Meanwhile, government officials maintained that due procedure was followed in giving the OSM contract.
