Economy up, B-school grads get 21% more in recruitment drive

Campus recruitment at Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS) closed this week with an average annual compensation of Rs 15.54 lakh.

MUMBAI: Campus recruitment at city's premier Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS) closed this week with the college recording an average annual compensation of Rs 15.54 lakh, a 21% rise from last year. The highest domestic salary offered was Rs 26 lakh.

As on most B-school campuses, offers outnumbered students, with most JBIMS graduates receiving multiple offers. In the end, 111 JBIMS students were placed in 83 companies. Close to 25% of the batch got pre-placement offers.

"Not only have the salaries gone up, companies are back to hiring in large numbers. In fact, the campus' highest salary is better that that in 2008, the best year we saw in recent times," said Avni Jain, a placement committee member. In 2008, the average annual salary was Rs 13.8 lakh.

The banking and finance sector recruited the largest number of students from the institute, followed by FMCG companies, which hired 24% of the batch. Ravi Bansal, another placement committee member, said, "With the economy looking good, our aim was to capitalize on the current trends and ensure that companies come down to the campus and offer coveted profiles so that students have a variety of profiles to choose from."
