Campus placement hit by global financial meltdown

As the global financial meltdown has reduced the campus placement this year, educational institutions are adopting a multi-pronged strategy to enhance the recruitment rate of students.

NEW DELHI: As the global financial meltdown has reduced the campus placement this year, educational institutions are adopting a multi-pronged strategy to enhance the recruitment rate of students.

Certain educational institutions under Ministry of HRD have reported that campus selection has gone down this year to some extent, Minister of State for HRD D Purandeswari told the Lok Sabha today.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) is providing grants to universities for establishment of career counselling centres. About 70 such centres are functional in various universities, she said in a written reply.

Many other universities have set up their own career counselling centres. Besides, steps are being taken by other central educational institutions to invite newer companies from various industries including PSUs to participate in campus recruitment, she said.

Some of the institutions are making arrangements for sending their students to such companies which are not able to come to the campus for recruitment, she said.
