Issuing of work visas to housemaids will begin from January one with Bahrain's labour market regulator set to cover expatriate domestic workers under its purview.

DUBAI: Issuing of work visas to housemaids will begin from January one with Bahrain's labour market regulator set to cover expatriate domestic workers under its purview.

"The issue of work visas for housemaids will come under its purview only in January," Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) Chief Executive Ali Radhi said yesterday.

Housemaids and other domestic workers does not come under the purview of current LMRA law.

From July one, the LMRA will start issuing work visas to expatriates, excluding domestic workers, in the private sector and the new labour fees will come into force the same day.
