NEW DELHI: Arun Ramanathan, secretary in the department of financial services, is likely to hold additional charge in the department of economic affairs (DEA). No DEA secretary is likely to be appointed soon, government sources said.

Mr Ramanathan, a 1973-batch Tamil Nadu cadre Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer, is likely to manage DEA for three months, it is understood.

The top slot in the DEA fell vacant after finance secretary D Subbarao took charge as the governor of RBI on Friday.

While there was no official conformation, sources said Mr Ramanathan would be in charge for three months or till the time a full-time secretary is appointed. Earlier, there were reports that civil aviation secretary Ashok Chawla would be shifted to DEA.
