55% IIT Madras students bag jobs in phase 1 of placement process
According to the institute, 1,294 students registered this time compared with 1,361 a year ago, when the first phase saw 54% of students bagging jobs.

NEW DELHI: More than 55% of final year IIT Madras students who registered for campus interview have been offered jobs in the first phase of the placement process for 2015-16.
According to the institute, 1,294 students registered this time compared with 1,361 a year ago, when the first phase saw 54% of students bagging jobs.
The number of companies visiting the campus this season was higher at 240 compared with 175 companies a year ago.
The institute said most of its branches have seen 60% placement with core sector, education, PSU, research & development, analytics, consulting and finance faring better.
However, IT has not been able to keep pace with the placement numbers of last year. “This year, only 14% of students got placed in the IT companies compared with 28% last year,” a spokesperson for the institute said.
In the second phase of the placement process, several educational institutions are expected to come.
