150 IITians bag jobs on day 1 of placements

KOLKATA: More than 150 students bagged jobs with top companies on the first day of their placement season at IIT Kharagpur, officials said on Wednesday.

The recruiters ranged from software giants Google, Microsoft, Oracle and Visa to renowned consultancies like BMGI, Essex Lake Group and The Parthenon - EY Group, they said.

Students also found themselves placed at internationally- reputed core organisations like NTT Communications and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation.

Several organisations like JP Morgan Chase and Kepler Cannon visited Kharagpur for the first time this year.

The first phase of the campus placement began yesterday and will go on till December 20.

Altogether 177 students have already got pre-placement offers (PPOs) from different companies.

Officials said recruiters like Rolls-Royce, Deloitte US-India, Airbus, Mentor Graphics, OlaCabs and Mercedez-Benz are scheduled to visit the IIT in the next few days.

IIT-Kgp was recently ranked as the best Indian institution by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) in the Graduate Employability Rankings.
