Taxis, buses can't run on non-clean fuel: Delhi Government
The notice specifies that vehicles running on diesel and petrol and with all India or national permits are not allowed to ply within the city.
The notice highlights the court order and warns operators of taxis, buses and goods vehicles running on diesel and petrol that plying within the city is not allowed.
Delhi government had, several months ago, banned web-based taxi services from operating without a valid permit issued by the transport department. The notice specifies that vehicles running on diesel and petrol and with all India or national permits are not allowed to ply within the city and those violating rules will be liable for prosecution.
The transport department notice is expected to check tourist taxis being run as intra-city cabs by app-based providers. At present, these providers primarily use taxis with all India permits which run on diesel or petrol, unlike city taxis that run on CNG.
According to government officials, around 20,000 tourist taxis are currently plying in Delhi as regular taxis registered with app-based services.
Delhi government had in March approached the department of electronic & information technology to block apps of Uber, Ola and TaxiForSure alleging that these companies are not complying with a ban imposed by it.
Earlier this month, the telecom department had asked internet service providers to block the websites of these companies.
