KOLKATA: A deep seaport, in collaboration with the Central government, will be set up in West Bengal's Dadanpatra in East Midnapore district for which 1700 acres of land will be provided by the state government. Meanwhile, the West Bengal Chief Minister also announced that Kolkata will be added to India's Water Metro network, becoming the 18th city in the country to be included in the ambitious urban water transport project.

Adhikari said that he is open to revenue sharing with the Centre if the deep sea port comes up in Bengal.
A high-level meeting has been held with Union minister for Shipping and Ports Sarbananda Sonowal today with Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari, where Union Minister of State for Shipping, Ports Shantanu Thakur was also present at state secretary Nabanna.


Earlier proposal of a deep sea port has been abandoned in Tajpur and Adanis had exited from the project, CM said, adding that he has held a meeting with Managing Director of Adani Ports & SEZ Karan Adani yesterday.

The CM said work on the proposed deep-sea port project at Dadanpatrabar, around 10 km from Tajpur.

Adhikari pointed out that the state government reviewed the long-pending Tajpur deep-sea port project. The port project was unviable and Rs 30 crore was spent to prepare the DPR. “Adani Ports and SEZ was in the fray for Tajpur Port but they exited as it was unviable,” he said.
