US' Goltens enters Indian ship repair market
The US based ship repair major Goltens has entered India, eyeing a share of the $440 million market in the country.
"Goltens foresees a seismic change in the ship maintenance business and hence is planning to be the pioneer in India by setting up the facility," Goltens Worldwide president Paul Friedberg said at a press conference in Mumbai. Goltens is investing $10 million across four new facilities in Asia Pacific, including the India centre.
"The ship repair sector in India is not organized and there arent any players who can provide a one stop solution to the needs of the shipping community," said Mr Friedberg. Goltens is looking at bridging this gap.
Globally, Goltens has around 1300 people in 22 locations around the world. "Increasing number of ships with larger and more sophisticated engines are generating increased demand for servicing and repair. In response to this demand, Goltens is expanding its global network of workshops and office facilities," he added.
