Tuticorin port creates record in cargo handling

Tuticorin port has created a new record in cargo handling by unloading 13,811 metric tonnes of muriate of potash (MOP) from a vessel on a single day.

MADURAI: Tuticorin port has created a new record in cargo handling by unloading 13,811 metric tonnes of muriate of potash (MOP) from a vessel on a single day.

The mass unloading was done on the New Year day at the berth No 3 from the vessel 'IVS Kanda', according a release from the port authorities.

The previous record discharge of MOP was 10,431 metric tonnes handled on July 23, 2006.

The record was created by augmenting the discharge by using three powerful port TRF crab cranes from the vessel for all the three shifts, it said.

The cargo was meant for Indian Potash Ltd, it added.
