TranSmart, a company promoted by Tushar Jani family and Khushroo Dubash, has ambitious plans to set up about 38 world-class warehousing facilities across the country in the next five years.
According to Tushar Jani, chairman of TranSmart, each facility is estimated to cost Rs 50 crore and the entire rollout would involve an outlay of over Rs 1900 crore. At the end of five years, the company will have a capacity of over 10.5 million sq ft.
The first such facility has already started operations in Bhiwandi, in Thane district of Maharashtra. "Our Delhi facility would be ready early next year to be followed by one in Bangalore in mid year, and then Chennai and Kolkata," he said.
The Delhi facility would be the biggest and perhaps the first total green warehouse not only in the country but also the world, Mr Jani said.
"If we could cover the entire warehouse with solar panels, the warehouse would be self sufficient in power. We could then also offer carbon credit to our customers, thereby attracting more of them to use the facility," he said.
Mr Jani said the warehousing market in this country is 3922 million sq ft and it is growing at 31% but supply is very miniscule.
"Warehousing is a very interesting phenomenon for the simple reason that there was no proper inventory management company in the country. The Bhiwandi facility is designed with latest material handling equipment, with self sustained systems that can work 24x7. The multi-user facility could be used as per use basis," said Bhairavi Jani, executive director and CEO, TranSmart.
"We have the infrastructure to paletise any type cargo, claims Ms jani, whose mega facility has logistics wherewithal for cargo of all types including break-bulk, spare parts, and electronics. The glass faade also houses its corporate office, library and other amenities that go with corporate entities.
"India is a great manufacturing hub and is the world's services hub. I would like to make sure that India becomes the supply chain powerhouse of the world as well... I would not rest till every square foot of India is a deliverable location," she said while talking about what motivates her to do what perhaps no woman in the country is trying to do.
