How do these frauds play out?
Unsuspecting users receive a call from a fake customs officer or courier representative regarding a seized parcel containing illegal items or violations of customs regulations.
They might also cite sections from the law and even ask people to have legal support to present their case.
To increase the sense of urgency, the fraudsters may connect the individual to a fake law enforcement official who then coaxes the user to make a payment to avoid any legal recourse or an arrest.
These imposters exploit the people’s fear of legal consequences and create an atmosphere of paranoia, anxiety and urgency so that users don’t have time to think and resort to immediate action. People are lured into transferring money, and these fraudsters disappear with their life’s money once the funds are transferred.
