One look at Indian Naval Academy and the last thing that one would think is a government office. Built as part of the Indian Navy's attempt to consolidate training facilities at one place, the beautiful academy has been designed by architect Namita Singh and took nine years to build.

It is the biggest architecture project being handled by a woman architect in South East Asia.

The building, a sight to behold, has been built at a cost of about Rs 700-crore.

The picturesque site covers 200000 square meters area with a 7 km beach and 7 peaks. A lot of town planning, road laying and landscaping has also gone into the academy's making.

The facility will be a training academy for 750 naval cadets.

Says Namita Singh; "The challenge in building the academy was to create a beautiful structure while also preserving the site's ecology. We built the structure in contemporary fashion, using granite and laterite stones that were abundantly available on the site."

What's interesting about the building is that it requires no air conditioning thanks to its design that provides adequate ventilation. Every room in the building opens to a courtyard that helps in cross ventilation.

The ample pristine greenery around is pleasing and inviting. The serene environs should serve as the perfect setting for training soldiers.
