NEW DELHI: With both government and transport-operators not moving from their stand, the strike called by All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) continues for eighth day on Monday. However, the strike seems to be loosing steam with each passing day as local transport-operators in various states, who were earlier supporting AIMTC strike, are calling off their withdrawing.

"Local transporters' association in Pune (Maharashtra), Hasan (Karnataka), Jaipur (Rajasthan) and Gurgaon (Haryana) have called off their strike," transport secretary Brahm Dutt had informed reporters on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the transport-operators have received an informal invitation from the home ministry for talks. However, the AIMTC members have refused any talks with the government until their president and other members are released unconditionally.

Last week, Delhi Police had arrested AIMTC president Charan Singh along with 30 associates under Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA).

The government has also called a meeting of state transport ministers on Monday to find out ways to resolve the deadlock. Most of the demands made by the transport-operators are under the purview of the states.
