New Delhi: There are seven Indian flagged vessels currently in the Persian Gulf and they are operating as per schedule, a senior official said. None of these vessels are carrying oil, gas, or fertilisers destined for the country. While five Indian flagged vessels are engaged in commercial activities in the region, two Indian-flagged container vessels are also there. Officials say vessels are exercising caution as per earlier directives in place.

"About 148 seafarers are onboard the Indian flagged vessels," a senior official said, adding they have been rotated as per requirement, and "all supplies are being provided."

One Indian seafarer was reportedly missing after an attack on a Cyprus-flagged container ship GFS Galaxy off the Oman coast Sunday. The damaged vessel had 11 Indian nationals on board of which 10 were rescued, the external affairs ministry said. United States Central Command pinned the blame on Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps for the attacks. Both sides traded strikes in the gulf region.

"No vessels are entering the Persian Gulf and alternative routes to move cargo into the region are becoming the norm," one official told ET.
